Our cottage holds a rich history, being one of the original 16 cottages built in 1930. It was known as the “Sleepy Hollow Motor Resort” during its early days. The resort boasted state-of-the-art amenities for the time, including electric heat, hot water, and even radios in the cottages. Imagine how appealing it must have been to spend a summer there, with all the modern conveniences of the era.
Back then, the cottages enjoyed a range of services provided by local businesses. The bakery, dry cleaner, mail delivery, and milk delivery all catered to the needs of the guests, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay. It truly was a destination designed for relaxation and enjoyment.
In 2005, a major refurbishment took place, transforming each cottage into a unique masterpiece. Renowned interior decorators lent their talents to create stunning and eye-catching designs. The cottages gained popularity, becoming featured attractions in various magazines and blogs, including ours.
Interestingly, our cottage had its own interior designer as its previous owner. With a pastel country decor that exuded charm and warmth, it welcomed guests until we acquired it in August 2020. We embarked on a journey to update and revitalize the cottage, giving it a fresh look and feel. New furnishings and decor were carefully chosen, resulting in a captivating transformation.
Throughout the years, the cottages have continued to undergo upgrades and improvements. Some have even undergone complete overhauls to meet the evolving tastes and preferences of discerning guests. Our cottage stands as a testament to these ongoing enhancements.

Exterior
Welcome to “Anchor Down,” our cozy cottage nestled in the tranquil beauty of The Cottages at Cabot Cove. Situated as the second cottage on the left, you’ll find us at #14. Upon arrival, you’ll notice the inviting circular drive, adorned with crushed oyster shells, where each cottage has its own designated parking spot.
Prepare to be enchanted as you step through the door into our private haven. Surrounded by lush plants and verdant greenery, our cottage boasts the most secluded front yard, ensuring your utmost privacy. Take a moment to unwind on the comfortable seating provided for you and your guests. The custom wood Adirondack seating area and charming tables create an ideal setting to bask in the glorious weather, sipping a glass of wine and indulging in a delightful charcuterie spread on a sunny day.
Craving refreshments and snacks? Look no further than the nearby Cape Porpoise Kitchen and H.B. Provisions. These local favorites offer an array of options to satisfy your cravings and enhance your stay.
If a day at the beach beckons, we’ve got you covered. Perched on the side of the cottage, you’ll discover beach chairs ready to accompany you on your seaside adventure. Feel the sand beneath your toes as you bask in the coastal serenity. Before you head out, each morning’s breakfast notes will provide you with valuable information on the day’s tide times, ensuring you make the most of your beach visit.
Living Room
The living room is designed to maximize space and functionality. With the new Crate and Barrel sofa, you can easily accommodate additional guests as it converts into a comfortable sleeping bed. It proved to be perfect when our boys visited KPT, allowing them to have a good night’s sleep while one of them stayed in the bedroom. Just keep in mind that when the sofa is transformed into a bed, it occupies the entire living room, so you might need to move the ottoman out of the way.
To enhance your entertainment experience, we have installed a new 40” smart TV in the living room. This smart TV grants you access to local television stations and provides the convenience of logging in to popular streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, and YouTube TV. So you can enjoy your favorite shows and movies with ease.
In today’s tech-savvy world, having a readily available phone charger is essential. That’s why we’ve incorporated a clever solution in the living room. The back panel of the end table opens up to reveal an easily accessible USB charging port. Now you can conveniently charge your phone without searching for an outlet.
With these features, the living room offers comfort, entertainment, and convenience, all within its compact layout.
Kitchen
The kitchen in our cozy cottage is fully equipped with everything you need to satisfy your cravings for coffee, refreshing drinks, or home-cooked meals. It boasts convenient amenities such as a mini fridge, convection microwave oven, and a two-burner stove. One of my personal favorite spots in the cottage is the corner banquette seating, where you can enjoy the delicious breakfast or comfortably work on your laptop.
Each morning, you’ll be greeted with a delightful surprise delivered straight to your doorstep by the Cottages at Cabot Cove management team. This enchanting breakfast package is thoughtfully prepared with just the right amount of food to start your day off right. The breakfast offerings vary daily, but you can expect to find delectable items such as freshly baked pastries, creamy yogurt, succulent fresh fruit, savory cheese and baguette, and invigorating juice.
For those who crave a caffeine kick to jumpstart their mornings, the coffee bar has you covered. You’ll find a small coffee maker complete with all the fixings to satisfy your coffee cravings. And if you prefer tea, there’s a lovely tea pot available for use on the stove top.
If you feel like getting creative in the kitchen and preparing your own meals, there are plenty of shops in town where you can find groceries and ingredients. Alternatively, you can make things even easier by bringing home a frozen meal from Cape Porpoise Kitchen or Talula’s Market. And of course, if you’re in the mood for a hassle-free dining experience, numerous restaurants in the area offer take-out options for you to enjoy.
Whether you’re seeking a quiet and serene breakfast retreat or a convenient kitchen for culinary adventures, the kitchen at the Cottages at Cabot Cove is sure to meet your needs and make your stay a memorable one.
Bedroom
The bedroom offers a luxurious queen-sized Pottery Barn bed, adorned with premium linens for your utmost comfort. While there isn’t a dresser in the bedroom, you’ll find various storage options to keep your belongings organized throughout your trip. Underneath the bed, you’ll discover spacious woven baskets capable of accommodating a substantial amount of clothes, shoes, or even extra pillows. In addition, there is a closet equipped with two shelves and a rod, allowing you to hang any items that need to be kept wrinkle-free. Moreover, two side tables accompany the bed, each boasting three drawers for further storage convenience.
To optimize your space and keep your living area tidy, we recommend completely unpacking your suitcases and stowing them away in the trunk of your rental car. This will ensure that your suitcases are out of your way, allowing you to fully enjoy your surroundings without unnecessary clutter. Additionally, the bedroom features a 40″ smart TV, identical to the one in the living room. This enables you to indulge in your favorite shows right from the comfort of your bed. Just be mindful that using the remote for one TV may accidentally turn on both televisions, so take caution.
Bathroom
The bathroom underwent a major renovation in 2021, resulting in a complete transformation. One of the standout features is the newly enlarged shower, which now boasts a sleek glass door for a modern touch. The addition of a vanity with ample storage space provides a convenient spot to unpack your toiletries and keep things organized. Furthermore, a hair dryer is thoughtfully provided for your use. You’ll find numerous hooks located behind the door, as well as towel rods strategically placed, allowing you to hang your towels or swimsuit after a refreshing visit to the nearby cove or Atlantic Ocean. These thoughtful amenities ensure your clothes have a designated spot to air dry.
Heating & Cooling
To keep your cozy cottage comfortable all season long, you have three electric heaters at your disposal:
- Living Room: Behind the end table, there is an electric wall heater. Simply rotate the knob on the front of the unit to turn it on.
- Bedroom: Underneath the window, you’ll find a baseboard heater. To activate it, rotate the knob located on the left side of the unit.
- Bathroom: The bathroom is equipped with a heater and exhaust fan on the ceiling. Use the switches near the bathroom window to conveniently turn it on.
And if you find yourself needing a cool breeze, we’ve got you covered too! In 2021, we upgraded the cottage with an in-wall AC unit in the living room. With the provided remote, you can control the temperature and power on/off the unit. Additionally, a new ceiling fan in the living room effectively circulates the heat or AC throughout the space. Simply leave the interior doors open, and you’ll notice how quickly the entire cottage cools down or warms up, depending on the time of year you visit. Enjoy the perfect atmosphere!
